Elena Marrocchino is a researcher at the Department of Environmental and Prevention Sciences of the University of Ferrara. She graduated in Geological Sciences at the Ferrara University, she obtained a Ph.D. in Mineralogy, Petrology, and Crystallography at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. After the attainment of the doctoral degree, she carried out research activities as a research fellow and fellow at the University of Ferrara and was the holder of several contract courses.

Her fields of interest are:

  1. traceability, enhancement and protection of the quality of agri-food products, through geochemical and isotopic approaches for quality certification and sustainable agronomic practices, safe for the health of the soil, water resources and consumers;
  2. petrographic, mineralogical and geochemical characterization of mining waste and alluvial sediments, with particular attention to the study of methods of treatment of minerals that do not impact the environment for the requalification of the same, exploring possible alternative uses of these materials and promoting their use in ceramic and glass industries;
  3. petrographic, mineralogical and geochemical characterization of building aggregates to favor their reuse, after suitable recycling treatments;
  4. analysis of environmental aspects and geochemical, petrographic, mineralogical and isotopic characterization of sediments, biota and plastics in harbor and seaside environments in the Upper Adriatic;
  5. petro-archaeometric characterization and classification of archaeological (ceramics, gems, coins, marbles) and architectural materials (lithoid building materials, mortars, concretes and plasters) used in Cultural Heritage, for the purposes of provenance and restoration.

Author of several scientific papers in international journals, she has also always been involved in Third Mission and Public Engagement initiatives. You collaborate with local authorities and schools for training activities, paths for transversal skills, and orientation on environmental issues.
