Elena Zamagni MD, PHD, is Associate Professor of Hematology at the University of Bologna, Italy. She received her medical degree from University of Bologna, where she also served her residency in haematology. She got PHD in Clinical Hematology at the University of Bologna in May 2005.She is teaching students of the School of medicine and resident in different areas.

Her research interests include areas related to multiple myeloma, in particular on the role of high dose therapy with stem cell support , of prognostic factors, minimal residual disease, novel therapies and of imaging techniques.

She has published over 150 papers in peer-reviewed journals, mainly in the field of plasma cell dyscrasia. She has contributed to the educational session of the Italian Society of Haematology, European society of Hematology (EHA) and American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). She has presented peer-reviewed abstracts in a huge number of national and international congresses. She has contributed to the drawing up of guidelines on multiple myeloma for the italian society of clinical oncology and hematology. She is an active member of the board of the GIMEMA/EMN myeloma working party and she has cooperated in the Scientific secretary and as principal investigator in several national and international phase I-II-III clinical trials in multiple myeloma. She is a member of the Italian Society of Haematology, of the International Myeloma Working Group, of the International Myeloma Society (IMS). She is co-responsible of the Career Development Committee of the IMS since 2020 and unique representative of Europe within the IMS since 2023.  She is serving on the EHA’s Scientific Program Committee since 2017 and on ESMO program.
