Romagna is a land of champions and sporting events, but as often happens, the success of the present is also the result of a historical-cultural and economic heritage. The aim of the research (in collaboration with the Misano World Circuit) is to reconstruct the evolution and consistency of an internationally known phenomenon, proposing through the archival documentation the peculiarities of the motorcycle and car races organized in the area since the beginning of the twentieth century. until the seventies. The creation of a database that collects the main information and the census of archival and photographic material will make it possible to contribute to the knowledge and promotion of a tourist product linked to the territorial heritage (the history of motorcycling in Romagna). The study could form the basis of future interdisciplinary research, such as, for example, the reconstruction of the role of competitions and circuits as a material expression of popular culture of the twentieth century. For this reason, the returns of this research are manifold, from the setting up of exhibitions, to the writing of contributions for scientific essays or popular volumes. Finally, it will be possible to contribute to the enrichment of tourism promotion sites regarding this product.
