Department of Cultural Heritage

Curriculum vitae

Adjunct Professor at the University of Bologna from 2016 to 2023 and Graduate technician of scientific laboratory at the Department of Biological, Geological and Environmental Sciences, University of Bologna from 2009. He carries out experimental activities related to advanced research and teaching needs in the field of mineralogical sciences through the use, among other methods of materials analysis, of X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning probe microscopy (SPM, AFM), Kelvin probe microscopy (KPFM), scanning electron microscopy with microanalysis (SEM-EDS).

Education and training

2020. Italian National Scientific Qualification for the functions of Associate Professor of the Competition Sector 04/A1 – Geochemistry, Mineralogy, Petrology, Volcanology, Georesources and Applications. Validity: 2020 – 2031.

2013. PhD in Earth Sciences (S.S.D. GEO/06) in the mineralogical field, University of Bologna.

2007. Enabled to practice as an engineer (section A), information sector (c).

2005. Master's Degree (Laurea Specialistica) in Biomedical Engineering class 26/s (University of Bologna), with a thesis on the interaction at the nanometric level of silicate surfaces and DNA.

Teaching and scientific activity

From 2016 to 2023 he holds a teaching module on methods of mineralogical analysis in the course of Mineralogy for the Single cycle degree programme (LMCU) in Conservation and restoration of cultural heritage, School of Arts, Humanities, and Cultural Heritage - Ravenna Campus, University of Bologna. Dr. Moro, as a scientific laboratory technician, collaborated in the development of X-ray diffraction (XRD) teaching laboratories, laboratories in mineralogical optics (OM), and scanning probe microscopy (SPM) laboratories, in the mineralogical and biomineralogical fields. He also held seminar cycles on multiple methods of mineralogical, biomineralogical and biomaterial analysis (XRD, SPM, KPFM, SEM, ESEM, EDS Si(Li) and SDD, XRF, thermal analysis TG-DTG-DTA, IR and Raman spectroscopy, confocal laser scanning microscopy). During his PhD Dr. Moro carried out scientific research in the field of mineralogy, aimed at the study of surface properties of phyllosilicates and oxides at the micro- and nanometric level by means of advanced experimental approaches (SPM, AFM, KPFM, AFM nanolithography, Shear Force Microscopy - ShFM , X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy - XPS, micro-Raman spectroscopy, SEM-EDS), finite element analysis (FEA) for the optimization of KPFM set-ups and Monte Carlo simulations for the optimization of SEM-EDS set-ups. The research activity was also focused on the study at the single molecule level of the interactions of these mineral surfaces with biomolecules fundamental for life.
