Daniele Ferdani holds a PhD in Archaeology and is a Senior Researcher at the CNR ISPC in Rome, where he is Head of the local unit.
He graduated cum laude in Cultural Heritage Conservation from the University of Parma. He obtained a second-level Master’s degree in Geotechnologies for Archaeology and a PhD in Medieval Archaeology from the University of Siena.
His research activity focuses on digital archaeology, building archaeology, and virtual museums. He specializes in the development and application of integrated digital methodologies for the documentation, digitization, and 3D reconstruction of archaeological and architectural contexts, with particular attention to the analysis and interpretation of historical processes and their communication through advanced visualization systems and virtual reality environments.
Currently he is the Coordinator of the European project COLOURS – Collaborative On-cloud Lab for the conservation and digital restoration of ColOUred heritage collectionS, and Work Package Leader of the European project PERCEIVE – Perceptive Enhanced Realities of Colored collEctions through AI and Virtual Experiences. He is also involved in the European project ECHOES and is responsible for the archaeological survey campaigns of the Fortifications of San Marino project.
He has participated in numerous regional, national, and European research projects, collaborating with international institutions and partners. Among these are e-Archeo, V-MUST.NET, CEMEC, REVEAL, and PRIN GreaT.
He is Head of an Operational Unit and acts as a provider within the European research infrastructure E-RIHS (European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science), contributing to the development of mobile laboratories and research strategies in the field of Heritage Science. He carries out international teaching activities as a guest lecturer at Lund University and is an adjunct professor in the Master’s degree programme Digital Humanities and Digital Knowledge at the University of Bologna. He is Special Issue Editor of the Journal Digital Applications in Archaeology and Cultural Heritage (Elsevier) and a member of the SAMI – Italian Society of Medieval Archaeologists.
