Curriculum vitae

DF got his degree cum laude in Chemistry in 1983 at the University of Bologna and in 1989 his PhD at the University and Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa cum laude. He was research fellow at the University of Trento (1985-1986), at the University of Pisa (1986-1989), and researcher at R&D of ENI Corporation (1989-1992). In 1992 he moved to the University of Bologna as Lecturer, Associate Professor in 2002, and since 2020 Full Professor in Analytical Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry "G.Ciamician".

His research activity takes place in the Rimini Campus in the field of analytical pyrolysis applied to environmental topics as the analysis of emerging contaminants (e.g. microplastics, cosmetic products), characterisation of sorbents for CO2 capture, biochar characterisation, biomass pyrolysis.

Teaching activity in courses at both undergraduate and graduate level, including (in English) "Analytical Chemistry of Organic Materials", “Cosmetics ingredients analysis and quality assurance”, "Environmental Aspects in Cosmetic Science",  and (in Italian) Chemical Analysis of Environmental Quality, Chemical Oceanography. Formerly member of the council of the PhD in "Chemistry" and "Environmental sciences: management and protection of natural resources".
DF has been involved in national and international projects (EU:as project leader of the 2000-2003 european project funded by the European Coal and Steel Community; participant in 2018-2021 B-PLAS (Climate-KIC); others PSR 2016, 2019; PRIN 2003, 2007; MiSE 2010-2017; COST-Action 2013-2015; 2020-24; CIPE; POR-FESR 2013-2015; 2016-2018; ERANET-ACT3 "Absalt"; MAECI Italy-China). He is responsible of the Organisational Unit (UOS) Rimini of the Department of Chemistry, scientific leader of the FSE Research Unit  (UO) of the Interdepartmental Centre in Industrial Research "FRAME".

He was editor of the Journal of Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis 2010-2021 and now member of the Advisory Editorial Board. He is author of 155 publications in peer-reviewed international journals and 4 patents.
