She obtained a PhD in Statistical Methodology for Scientific Research from the University of Bologna in 1996 and a Degree in Statistical and Economic Sciences in 1992.

- Since 2024 – Deputy Coordinator of the PhD Programme in Statistical Sciences, University of Bologna.
- Since 2024 – Elected member of the Rimini Campus Council.
- Since 2015 – Director of the Master’s Programme in Tourism Development and Cultural Heritage Management, University of Bologna.
- 2018–2021 – Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Finance, Insurance and Business, Rimini Campus.
- 2015–2021 – Elected member of the Executive Board of the Department of Statistical Sciences.
- 2014–2021 – Deputy Director and member of the Executive Board of the Centre for Advanced Studies in Tourism (CAST).
Scientific Associations and Research Centres
She is a member of:
- Italian Statistical Society (SIS);
- Italian Regional Science Association (AISRe);
- European Regional Science Association (ERSA).
From 2019 to 2022, she served as Secretary/Vice-President of the Italian Regional Science Association (AISRe), and from 2023 to 2025 as a member of its Executive Board.
She is also a member of the Centre for Advanced Studies in Tourism (CAST), where she served as Deputy Director from 2014 to 2021.
Research Projects
She has coordinated and participated in numerous national and international research projects, with a particular focus on economic statistics, regional development, tourism, sustainability, and cultural heritage enhancement.
Her coordination experience includes:
- INNNOXENIA – Innovation in Tourism in the Adriatic-Ionian Macroregion (Interreg ADRION, 2018–2020), Scientific Coordinator for CAST – University of Bologna;
- BEST MED – Beyond European Sustainable Tourism MED Path, within the INTERREG MED/PANORAMED programme, Project Coordinator;
- PRIN 2002 – Tourism and Productivity Growth: Local Factors and Territorial Competitiveness, Local Coordinator of the research unit focusing on conference businesses and local tourism systems;
- numerous applied research projects carried out in collaboration with public institutions and local organisations on sustainable mobility, the meetings and conference industry, and the analysis of tourism systems.
Her most recent projects include:
- LIBECCIO – SustainabiLIty of tourism By EnhaCing Cooperation and dIgital transformation, Interreg Euro-MED;
- GRINS – Growing Resilient, INclusive and Sustainable, funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU;
- PRIN – Towards local development through a sustainable valorization of cultural heritage;
- CAST projects focusing on business intelligence and the use of data for destination management.
Research Activity and Research Interests
Her research mainly focuses on the application of statistical and econometric methods to the analysis of economic, social, and territorial phenomena.
Her main research interests include:
- consumption analysis, living standards, and inequalities;
- productivity and efficiency;
- public policy evaluation;
- spatial and regional analysis;
- quality of life and well-being;
- economics, sustainability, and competitiveness of tourism and cultural systems;
- statistical analysis applied to cultural heritage;
- Big Data Analytics applied to tourism and regional systems.
Editorial and Scientific Activities
She is a member of the Advisory Board of AlmaTourism – Journal of Tourism, Culture and Territorial Development, the Editorial Board of Statistica & Società, and the Scientific Committee of the AISRe Regional Science Series.
She regularly serves as a reviewer for numerous international scientific journals in the fields of economic statistics, regional science, policy evaluation, productivity, and tourism.
She has also contributed to the organisation of numerous national and international conferences, scientific sessions, workshops, and summer schools.
Teaching Activities
She teaches in Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, and postgraduate programmes at the University of Bologna.
Over the course of her academic career, she has taught, among others, Business Statistics, Economic Statistics, Sector and Market Analysis, Spatial and Longitudinal Data Analysis, Statistics for Auditing, and Quantitative Methods for Business.
She also teaches within the Master’s Programme in Tourism Development and Cultural Heritage Management, of which she is Director.
