Prof. Cinzia Benazzi
Full professor at the University of Bologna since 2003 (after a three-year period of overtime), she conducts her research in the area of mammary neoplasms in domestic carnivores with particular emphasis on aspects of comparative pathology with the human model of disease, investigations of tumor kinetics and tumor turn-over, adhesion molecules and lymphangiogenesis and angiogenesis in the metastatic process. For several years she has been collaborating with the Department's Buiatrics Service on congenital neurological and musculoskeletal malformations in calves and on tumors, congenital and noncongenital, of the bovine species. Current collaborations are with colleagues at the Institute of Veterinary, Animal and Biomedical Sciences, Massey University, New Zealand for bone lesions and with the University of Padua for neuro-muscular lesions.
Training
Graduated in Veterinary Medicine with honors at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Bologna in 1980. In the following years she followed the Annual Epidemiological Course on Infectious Diseases and Prophylaxis and the Annual Course in Foodstuffs at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Bologna. She also followed the Pathological Anatomy Update Course for Veterinarians organized by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Turin in conjunction with the Order of Veterinary Medical Practitioners of the Province of Cuneo. In 1996 she received the (de-facto) Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Pathologists.
Academic career
In 1983 she became Researcher at the Pathologic anatomy service of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Bologna, winning a free competition held in January 1982 and in 1987 she was appointed Associate professor, after winning a free competition held in June 1986. In 2000 she was appointed Full professor in Veterinary General Pathology and Pathological Anatomy.
