Graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Bologna in 2002, completed residency in Neurology in 2008, and obtained a PhD in Sleep Medicine in 2012. Her main research topics are: 1) the study of the relationship between the eye and circadian rhythms, in particular the investigation of a subgroup of retinal ganglion cells expressing melanopsin, which play a key role in the photosynchronization of circadian rhythms in neurodegenerative diseases; 2) hereditary optic neuropathies, with a specific focus on new gene therapy approaches; 3) mitochondrial diseases. She is head of the Neuro-ophthalmology Clinic at Bellaria Hospital and is involved in several national and international research projects.
