Associate Professor of Demography at the Paolo Fortunati Department of Statistics of the University of Bologna. Previously I was Senior Researcher at the Demography Unit of the University of Stockholm (SUDA) and at the Institute of Social Sciences (ISS) of the University of Lausanne. In 2016 I obtained my PhD in Political and Social Sciences at the European University Institute (EUI) with my thesis titled "Fertility in Time of Economic Crisis. The Great Recession effects on childbearing in the United States".
My main research interest concerns fertility in developed countries, the link between reproductive choices and economic uncertainty and labor market dynamics and gender. My other research interests are family dynamics, economic inequality, and how family and work trajectories jointly influence the multiple dimensions of health and wellbeing.
From September 2025 Chiara Ludovica Comolli is the PI of the FIS2 project titled SO-UNFER - Social Uncertainty and Fertility in Europe (1.329.666 €, Sept 2025-Aug 2028)
