The 4th FinGeo School (31January - 1 February 2026) - Registration closed

The 4th FinGeo school will be held in Bologna from the 31 January - 1 February 2026 and it targets early career researcher (Post-Grad, PhD students, Post-doc, etc), but it is open to anyone interested. This edition will focus on in-field research methodology in Financial Geography.

It is going to be held in a friendly academic environment of the oldest University of the world in an Italian area where small and mid-size firms, cooperatives and social businesses, local banks, bank philanthropic foundation and public funds have created an international leaderships in several traditional and innovative industrial sector (i.e. automotive, mechanics, agrifood, heath, green economy, bigdata and A.I.). Over the past year, Bologna has emerged as one of the leading world hubs for high-performance computing (HPC) and quantum technologies, opening new opportunities to explore the intersections of finance, sustainability, and technology.

Therefore, this FinGeo School offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the past and engage in debates about the future, fostering research on the current and emerging developments in financial geography.

Methodologically, this edition will combine inspiring keynotes from leading scholars with hands-on, field-based research approaches in Financial Geography. The programme features traditional guest lectures, site visits, and fieldwork applying research methodologies. It will be further enriched by career development sessions, networking opportunities, and 'meet the editors' events with leading journals associated with FinGeo.

Bursary opportunities are available to partially cover travel expenses, supported by the Regional Studies Association – FinGeo Research Network project.

Please note that the FinGeo School is organized back-to-back to the 8th FinGeo Global Seminar that will be held 2nd and 3rd February 2026 at the University of Bologna premises. FinGeo School participants are welcomed to stay for the seminar and present a short paper or joining the discussions.
