Carmelo Algeri

Carmelo Algeri is a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor (RTT, Law 79/2022) in Banking at the Department of Management, Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna. His research uses spatial econometric methods to study the interdependencies between banks, firms, and local economies, focusing on local banking markets, banks’ geographical presence, and the effects of spatial dependence on financial intermediaries. His research also covers financial and climate risks, credit risk, bank efficiency and competition, and the implications of ESG factors. He holds a PhD in Economics, Management and Statistics from the University of Messina. From 2022 to 2025, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Bologna. His work has appeared in international journals, including Regional Studies, Business Strategy and the Environment, Papers in Regional Science, Finance Research Letters, and Applied Economics Letters.
