Carlo Gentili (Grosseto 1951) was full professor of Aesthetics at the University of Bologna (Dept. Philosophy). In the last years, he has taken part in the following congresses: "La traduction entre philosophie et littérature", organised by Italian Institut of Culture in Paris (Paris, 3-4 April 1998); "Normativity and Legitimacy", organised by University of Rome-Tor Vergata and by National Council of Researchs, in cooperation with New York University, New School for Social Research, Columbia University (New York, 12-14 October 1999); "La volontà di potenza: eccesso e misura in/a partire da Nietzsche", organised by University of Macerata (Macerata, 3-4 May 2000); "Figuren der Geschichte. Bilder der Zukunft", organised by Stiftung Weimarer Klassik (Weimar, 27-29 October 2000); "Nietzsche e il superuomo: una provocazione per una nuova misura dell'agire", organised by University of Macerata (Macerata, 9-10 May 2001); "Teoria e pratica dell'aforisma" , organised by University of Venice "Ca' Foscari" (Venice, 28-30 November 2002); "Schiller e la tragedia" (Centro Italo-Tedesco di Villa Vigoni, Loveno di Menaggio, 28-30 june 2005); "Nietzsche e la morte di Dio" (Centro Italo-Tedesco di Villa Vigoni, Loveno di Menaggio, 10-13 september 2007); "Nietzsche y la hérmenéutica" (Universitat de València, 5-7 november 2007). Together with Giuliano Campioni and Aldo Venturelli, on behalf of the University of Bologna, he organised the congress "Nietzsche. Illuminismo. Modernità" (Bologna, 13-15 November 2000); together with Aldo Venturelli, on behalf of the University of Bologna, he organised the Congress "Metafisica e nichilismo. Löwith e Heidegger interpreti di Nietzsche" (Bologna, 1-2 April 2004). Together with Aldo Venturelli, Friedrich Wilhelm Von Herrmann and Sergio Givone, he organised the congress “Martin Heidegger trent'anni dopo” for Martin Heidegger's thirtieth death-anniversary.He translated and edited the Italian edition of works of H.R. Jauss, W. Wieland, H. Blumenberg, E. Grassi, H. Fränkel, G. Figal. He cooperated, and still cooperates, with many reviews; among these: "Il Verri", "Studi di estetica", "Rivista di Letterature moderne e comparate", "Rivista di estetica", "Nietzscheforschung", "Estetica", "Oltrecorrente" "Nietzsche-Studien". In 2006 he became a member of the scientific committee of the "Nietzsche-Studien". He is a member of the "Friedrich-Nietzsche-Stiftung". He has dedicated the lessons of his universitary courses to the thought of Nietzsche and of other German philosophers of modern time.
