EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Boliang Zhang is a Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (MIET) and an academic researcher in intelligent mobility and applied computer technology. He is pursuing a dual Ph.D. under the joint doctoral program between Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) and Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna (UniBo), co-advised by Prof. Giovanni Pau and Prof. Marcus Im (Sio Kei Im, former Rector of MPU).

His research focuses on IoT architecture, low-power sensing protocols, multi-agent reinforcement learning for dynamic vehicular/parking systems, and generative optimization algorithms. He has published 18 academic papers and monographs with 141 cumulative citations, holds 4 granted national invention patents, 7 pending invention patents, 3 registered software copyrights, and has co-authored 1 national group standard.

He received the 2024 Macao Science and Technology Award (Postgraduate Scientific and Technological R&D Award) from the Macao SAR Government and the 2026 Red Dot Award: Best of the Best. Beyond academia, he has founded and served in executive technical leadership roles across several high-tech enterprises in the Greater Bay Area, directing translational R&D initiatives in smart lighting, cybersecurity, and intelligent IoT systems.
