- 1987-1993, during medical school, the position of intern student frequenter, having carried out activities of study and research at the Neurophysiology Laboratory of Visual Processes at the Department of Human and General Physiology of the University in Bologna.

- 14/07/1995, Graduation cum laude at the University of Bologna Medical School, having discussed an experimental thesis in 'Pain Pathophysiology and Therapy" entitled: "The spinal path in the treatment with opioids and local anesthetics of cancer and vascular pain."

- 1995-1998, Neuroscience doctorate position (PhD) at the Neurophysiology Laboratory of Visual Processes at the Department of Human and General Physiology of the University in Bologna. Neuroscience doctorate Graduation (PhD) in 2000 (university de L' Aquila.)

- 1998-2002, Residency in Anesthesia and Intensive post-graduate school at the University of Bologna; Graduation cum laude, in 2002; having discussed the thesis entitled "Medicine without pain. The pain education during Medical School".

- 2002 stage at the 'Pain Centre' of the University Hospital Brigham and Women's Hospital of the Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA, where he acquired important notions and techniques for treating acute and chronic pain.

- 01/2003-10/2003, research and consultation scholarship, for the activity of study and research on 'the biological interferences of chronic pain treatment with opioids' assigned by "R.Q. Search and quality in Sanitary assistance, Rimini," at the pain and palliative care unit of the 'Infermi Hospital' at Rimini, Italy, as part of an ongoing collaboration between the center mentioned above and the Operative Unite Anesthesiology, Director Prof. GF Di Nino of the teaching hospital of Bologna, Policlinico S. - 03/08/2005 up today, Anesthesiology consultant (convention with the Italian SSN) at the Teaching Hospital of Bologna, Policlinico S. Orsola-Malpighi; university Referral of the APS, Acute Pain Service, for the treatment of post-operative pain and non-surgery pain patients in the hospital wards.
