Titolo della tesi: "FAIR management of Digital Cultural Heritage data and metadata"

Abstract: It is increasingly clear that research data management (RDM) is discipline-specific and humanities data pose peculiar management challenges. A great deal of humanities data and metadata are held in Cultural Heritage (CH) institutions and only a fraction of them has been digitised. There are many legal and ethical restrictions and, even when there are no restrictions, the complexity of interpreting the legal status of data is the real obstacle. In addition, CH objects “are not only representations of history but also come themselves with a history” and their digitisation risks losing this information and providing an impoverished form of knowledge. The creation of digital objects for arts and humanities research purposes is an important scholarly activity in itself. In order to contribute to the ongoing discussion around FAIR data management in the humanities in general and cultural heritage research in particular, the project plans to describe and analyse the technical peculiarities of complex digital cultural heritage (DCH) data (with the help of case studies), and the issues they may pose for FAIR data management. The analysis of DCH data will focus on three main aspects: (1) DCH data and metadata with a focus on 3D models and LOD, (2) Representation and interpretation in DCH, (3) Complex and multi-layered provenance in DCH.
