Barbara Mikac is marine ecologist, junior assistant professor at the University of Bologna. Her research interests are oriented towards ecology of marine benthic communities, marine biodiversity, marine bio-invasions, anthropogenic impacts on marine and coastal ecosystems and ecology and taxonomy of marine invertebrates in particular Polychaeta. She performed her research at different research institutes and universities in Croatia and Italy. Currently she is focused on research concerning aquaculture as a vector for transport of non-indigenous species in the Mediterranean Sea. She is involved in various science communication activities. Barbara teaches courses “Ecology for Cultural Heritage” and “Mediterranean Ecosystems” at the University of Bologna in Ravenna and “Mediterranean Environment and Ecosystems” at the Eastern College Consortium (E.C.Co.) in Bologna. She was supervisor of several bachelor and master thesis and supervises a PhD student. She collaborates with different research institutes and universities abroad.
