Barbara Mikac

Barbara Mikac is a marine ecologist and a fixed-term Junior assistant professor at the University of Bologna. Her research focuses on the study, conservation, and management of natural and cultural heritage, with particular emphasis on marine and coastal environments. She studies the biodiversity and ecology of Mediterranean benthic communities, with particular attention to biological invasions, the effects of anthropogenic pressures, and biodiversity associated with aquaculture. She is a specialist in the taxonomy and ecology of polychaetes (Annelida). Her scientific approach combines ecological field surveys, classical and molecular taxonomy, biodiversity monitoring, underwater research, and participatory approaches. She has extensive experience in conducting and coordinating national and international research projects and scientific collaborations, gained at universities and research institutes in Croatia and Italy. She teaches and supervises students at all levels of university education and is particularly committed to Third Mission activities and science communication.
