Her current scientific interests include aspects related to microbial paleontology, geobiology, and astrobiology related to the formation, preservation, and detection of microbial biosignatures, habitable environments beyond Earth, and early and extreme environments.

- geobiology of chemosynthetic ecosystems associated to Paleozoic and pre-Paleozoic hydrocarbon seep deposits in Africa.
- geological and biogeochemical study of ancient microbial mats and stromatolites (South Africa).
- biofacies analyses of mid-temperature hydrothermally-related microbial ecosystems from Yellowstone National Park, US, and El Tatio, Chile, geothermal area.
