Curriculum vitae

Associate Professor in Microbiology at the University of Bologna. He carries out his research in the field of human microbial ecosystems. The research interests are aimed at the study of the interactions between mutualistic bacteria, pathogens and host cell epithelium and at understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of probiotic bacteria.

Education

Master degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology in 1997 at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Bologna (110 cum laude), she obtained a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2002.

Academic career

After several years of post-doctoral research contracts (from 2002 to 2005), in 2005 she became a researcher in the disciplinary sector CHIM/11-Chemistry and Biotechnology of Fermentation, at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Bologna, with affiliation to the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

In January 2014 she obtained the national scientific qualification for the functions of associate professor for the following disciplinary sectors: 03/D1-Chemistry and Pharmaceutical, Toxicological and Nutraceutical Technologies; 05/I1-Genetics and Microbiology and 07/F2-Agricultural Microbiology.

Since February 2018 she is Associate Professor of the Scientific Disciplinary Sector BIO/19 - Microbiology, Department of Pharmacy and Biotechnology, University of Bologna.

In September 2018 she obtained the national scientific qualification for the functions of 1st level professor for the disciplinary sector 05/I2 - Microbiology.

Teaching activity

Since 2005 she has been continuously teaching as holder of various courses for Bachelor's and Master's Degrees for the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Department of Pharmacy and Biotechnology.

She is currently a professor of Applied Microbiology for the Master's Degree Course in Health Biology of the University of Bologna and of Microbiology for the Degree Courses in Biotechnology and Biological Sciences of the University of Bologna.
