Research and academic cooperation (also by means of Erasmus contract) with Prof. Erik Verhoef (Head of Department of Spatial Economics ), on the basis of a previous cooperation with Prof. Peter Nijkamp. Two graduate students from the Faculty of Statistics (Simonetta Longhi and Roberto Patuelli) did their Ph.D. in Economics at VU University (completing their dissertation in September 2005 and 2007, respectively), under the joint supervision of Prof. Njikamp and myself. Subsequently, Pietro Bucci, who graduated in Economics at the University of Bologna (by defending a Thesis which I supervised), successfully received - in 2008 - his Master's degree STREEM in 'Spatial, Transport and Environmental Economics', at VU Amsterdam. These first collaborations founded the basis for a continuous cooperation, still operational, between VU and UNIBO.

Description:
Research cooperation with Prof. Francesca Medda (on economic and transport networks). A Master student from the Faculty of Statistics (Luca Cocconcelli) obtained a grant from UCL, in 2010, in order to complete his master studies jointly with the University of Bologna; subsequently, in 2011, Luca Cocconcelli obtained a 2nd grant in order to continue his research activities by means of a PHD at UCL. Luca successfully defended his PHD in 2017.

Description:
Research and academic cooperation (concerning transport economic and telecommunication issues) with Prof. Andrew Goetz. Thanks to a Senior Visiting Fellowship at the Bologna Institute of Advanced Studies, Professor Goetz visited Bologna University (UNIBO), in the year 2009-2010, as well as in December 2017, by giving lectures also at the Department of Statistics. At the present, we are working on the renewal of the institutional change of students/researchers between UNIBO and DU.

Description:
Research cooperation with Prof. Laurie Schintler, Prof. Ken Button, Prof. Kingsley Haynes and the late Prof. Roger Stough (on transport networks and innovation). Prof. Ken Button has held - in recent years - a series of seminars on air transport at the Faculty of Statistics. In addition, Prof. Roger Stough visited my Department of Economics in April 2007, and Prof. Ken Button in April 2009. Furthermore, two students from the Faculty of Statistics (Roberto Patuelli and Giacomo Galiazzo) obtained grants, in the past years, from GMU in order to undertake - at GMU - a Master's degree on transport and a six-month's research, respectively.

Description:
Research and academic cooperation (by means of Socrates contract) with Prof. Juan Carlos Martin, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Economics. Prof. Juan Carlos Martin was the co-promotor of the final degree dissertation of Stefano Scagnolari at the Faculty of Statistics (I supervised this Thesis as first promotor). This Thesis has received an award from the Italian Regional Science Association (AISRe).
