Research lines

- Jul 1987 - Dec 1989. Study of a new antifungin compound produced by Streptomyces albaduncus. Direct risponsable for optimization of fermentative production, isolation and purification of active principle.

- Jan 1990 - Jul 1991. 1) Costruction of shuttle vectors derived from native plasmids of thermophilic strains, cloning of such vectors in Bacillus subtillis strains and study of segregational stability during continuous fermentations in nonselective medium. 2) Optimization of lisine fermentative production by mutant NUB3621 of the thermophilic strain Bacillus stearother­mophilus.

- Sep 1991 - Sep 1995. 1) Production of L and D lactic acid stereoisomers by Lactobacillus casei ssp. casei DSM 20011 and Lactobacillus coryniformis ssp. torquens DSM 2004, in batch and continuous fermentation. Study of fermentation paramethers, productivity optimization and mathematic modelling of process. 2) Utilization of NIR spectroscopy in on-line monitoring and control of fermentation processes, using as model the lactic acid fermentation.

-     Oct 1995 - Jul 1996. Determination of optimal culture conditions of Bacillus stearothermophilus NUB 3621, and study of stability of recombinant plasmids during the continuous culture of such strain in nonselective medium. Study of continuous fermentation optimization and plasmid stability on Bacillus stearothermophilus NUB3621.

-         Sep 1995 - Sep 1998. Study of plasmids and fermentative features of the genetically transformable strain Bifidobacterium animalis P-23. Enhancement of biomass production and stability study of several cloning vectors in continuous fermentation.

-         May 1999 - May 2001. Metabolic Engineering of Glycopeptide Antibiotics: Technology, Optimization and Production. An application to the teicoplanin production by Actinoplanes teichomyceticus.

-         2001 – to date. Genetic engineering of Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtillis aimed to the construction of suitable strains useful for the directed evolution of enzymes.
