 Research

I publish in leading journals in Migration and Ethnicity, International Political Economy, and Sociology (e.g. Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Global Networks, International Migration, Current Sociology) and with publishers like Palgrave and Routledge.

Based on long-term ethnographic research, my work builds on the fields of critical migration studies, labor studies, and urban studies.

My research revolves around several themes.

The first theme is international migration, transnationalism, and cultural diversity. This includes a long-term interest in Chinese migration and related labor and social issues in Europe, as well as migrants contribution to city making.

I am also interested in the anthropology of politics. My research revolves around the intersection of law enforcement and urban governance, with a focus on selective law enforcement based on processes of racialization.

More recently, I have been looking at how China is reshaping its transnational space by digitally engaging its diaspora.

I also study how the presence of Chinese transnational workers in Africa challenges dominant conceptualizations of migrant labor.
