After graduating in biological sciences at the University of Bologna, she received her master's degree in science communication from Sissa in Trieste. A professional journalist, she has written in Italian and international journals including
Nature Biotechnology. She is the author of books on topics ranging from molecular anthropology to agricultural biotechnology, from demography to psychology. Genome editing is the focus of her book "E l'uomo creò l'uomo" (Bollati Boringhieri) and her bilingual blog (CRISPeR Frenzy). She wrote an essay on pandemic policies ("A shelter from the pandemic," with Andrea Crisanti, EIB). She runs a science and bioethics column in the magazine
7-Corriere della Sera and covers genetics and evolution in
Le Scienze.
