PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

July 2002 – December 2004: Work Contract on “Epidemiological survey on Proliferative Kidney Disease and evaluation of diagnostic methods in fish and alternate hosts” at the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Animal Pathology, University of Bologna.

2006: Fish pathologist consultant on ornamental fish diseases at Val Bacchetti Farm, Bologna, Italy.

Since 2008 he has taught, as expert, in several national vocational trainings and post-graduate schools taking theoretical and practical lessons on fish pathology, parasitology and fish-borne zoonoses.

In 2010 he got a contract for assistance to the practical lectures of the teaching course in Parasitic Diseases of Aquatic Animals (degree course in Aquaculture and Hygiene of Fish Productions, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Bologna University).

In May 2011 he taught “Fish parasites and diseases” within an international course on Module ESL8 – Fisheries and aquaculture in the framework of the International Master School in Environmental Sciences: Limnology and Wetland Ecosystems (LWE), Kenyan trimester, Egerton University, Kenya.

 

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

Since 2002 till now: research activities on pathology of aquatic animals and parasitic zoonoses, with particular attention to parasitic and bacterial pathogens of fish imported or produced in Italy; characterization of the parasitic fauna of aquatic animals resident (both wild and farmed) in Italian territory; study of the pathogenic effects of parasites in farmed marine fish; veterinary and public health aspects linked to aquaculture in Eastern Africa; epidemiology of fish-borne parasitic zoonoses (diphyllobothriasis, anisakiasis and opistorchiasis).

Furthermore he has been involved in researches on other parasitic zoonoses such as Dirofilariasis and Tungiasis.
