Associate Professor of History of Christianity and Churches at the University of Bologna, previously Senior assistant professor (RTD-b) at Bologna, postdoctoral researcher at Sapienza University of Rome and postdoctoral fellow at the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. He has carried out research stays in London and Bochum.
His research focuses mainly on early Christianity; history and Christian literature of the 1st-5th centuries; the historical Jesus; the Nag Hammadi codices and their historical-religious context. Other topics include the reception of early Christian and Patristic authors and themes in the Modern period; Erasmus of Rotterdam and his context; Ernesto Buonaiuti and his context.
He has received the 2017-2018 Desiderio Pirovano Prize (Istituto Luigi Sturzo) and the Società Italiana di Storia delle Religioni (SISR) Prize for doctoral dissertations (2016-2017). He is a member of several national and international scientific societies.
