Curriculum vitae

  • He received the Mechanical Engineering degree (with honours) in 1991 at the University of Bologna, with an original thesis on “Numerical and Experimental Analysis of a Mechanism for Automatic Machine”.
  • In 1992 he obtained the permission to engineering consulting.
  • In 1993 he obtained a grant from the G.D company on the subject: “Elastodynamic modelling of mechanisms for packaging machines”.
  • 1993: Consultant of P.U.M.A. Association (Automatic Machine Unified Project).
  • From 1994 to 2001: Assistant Professor of Mechanics of Machines at the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DIEM) of the University of Bologna.
  • In 1996 he was visiting researcher at the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR), Southampton, UK. He joined the Signal Processing and Control Group working on the project “Machine Condition Monitoring and Diagnostics”.
  • From November 2001 to April 2018, he has been Associate Professor of Mechanics of Machines at the University of Bologna.
  • From 1997 to 2000 he cooperated to the Pilot Project “Signal processing for the acoustic and vibration diagnosis of rotating machines”, partially founded by the EC in the frame of the “Leonardo da Vinci” Program.
  • From 1999 to 2007 he was member of the Academic Board of the Doctoral programme in “Mechanics of Machines” at the University of Bologna.
  • From 2007 to 2014 he was member of the Academic Board of the Doctoral programme in “Mechanics and Advanced Engineering Sciences (DIMSAI)” at the University of Bologna.
  • Since 2002 he is the Scientific Coordinator of the research project between DIEM and Ducati Corse S.r.l. on the topic “Performance improvement of a racing motorbike engine's desmodromic valve train”.
  • From 2004 to 2012 he was member of the Council of the “II Facoltà di Ingegneria con sede a Cesena” as delegate of the “Industrial Area”.
  • From October 2012 to September 2015 he has been Director of the Mechanical Engineering Course of the School of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Bologna (DR n. 882/33199, July 2012).
  • From October 2012 to April 2018 he has been member of the School of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Bologna.
  • In 2014 he was qualified as full professor (09/A2 - Meccanica Applicata alle Macchine).
  • From October 2015 to April 2018 he has been Director of the Mechanical Engineering Course of the School of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Bologna (DR n. 845/64949, August 2015).
  • From 2017 he is member of the Academic Board of the Doctoral programme in “Automotive Engineering for Intelligent Mobility” at the University of Bologna.
  • Since May 2018, he is Full Professor of Mechanics of Machines at the University of Bologna.
  • He is member of the Academic Senate of the Bologna University, as Professor Representative of the Technological Area (Area no. 2), for the period 2018-2021.
  • He is Director of Organisational Unit (UOS) Forlì of Department of Industrial Engineering (DIN), since May 2018.
  • Member of the Presidio di Qualità di Ateneo of Bologna University, since April 2022.
  • His research activity mainly concerns the Mechanical Vibrations, with competencies in: advanced methods for monitoring and diagnostics of machinery faults based on vibration analysis; mathematical modelling and simulation of the elasto-dynamic behaviour of mechanical systems; model based diagnostics.
  • Author or co-author of about 100 scientific papers, including 36 indexed on Scopus, mostly published in international journals or international conference proceedings.
