An Associate Professor at the University of Bologna since 2022, she conducts research on hematological malignancies, with a particular focus on myelodysplastic syndromes and the use of flow cytometry. She has investigated erythroid differentiation and the PI-PLCβ-mediated nuclear signal transduction pathway during myeloid differentiation induced by azacitidine and venetoclax. Her work has also addressed signal transduction in low-risk myelodysplastic patients who are heavily transfused and undergoing iron chelation therapy with deferasirox. Her current research focuses on comparing low-risk patients treated with Azacitidine versus Luspatercept and on lymphocyte immunomodulation mediated by mesenchymal cells of various origins. In collaboration with other research groups, she has extended her studies to solid tumors—specifically osteosarcomas—and the role of lamin A in carcinogenesis and metastasis. She is also interested in the role of astrocytes in the rare disease Autosomal-Dominant Leukodystrophy (ADLD).
