Researcher at the Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate (ISAC) within the Italian National Research Council (CNR), Alessandra Bonazza graduated in Geological Sciences at the University of Ferrara and got a PhD in Earth Sciences focused on atmospheric carbon compound analysis in damage layers on stone monuments.  Her research activity aims at the protection and conservation of Cultural Heritage focusing on the following fields:

-Pollution and climate impact, including climate change, on movable and immovable cultural heritage. .

-Building materials characterization.

-Environmental compatibility and durability of restoration works.

-Reconstruction of working technologies of bricks and mortars employed in archaeological sites of the Mediterranean Basin.

This activity has been and is currently carried out within projects funded by the European Commission, including the EC Noah' Ark Project (Global climate change impact on built heritage and cultural landscapes)  which got in 2009 the Grand Prize of Europa Nostra. She is Professor of Environmental impact on materials, deterioration and ageing at the University of Bologna.
