Natale Alberto Carrassi

Associate Professor

Department of Physics and Astronomy "Augusto Righi"

Academic discipline: FIS/06 Physics of the Earth and of the Circumterrestrial Medium

Short Bio

From November 2022 Associate Professor at UniBO and Visiting Professor at University of Reading (UK).

My main research area is data assimilation, particularly on theoretical developments motivated by issues emerging in science. The fingerprint my research activity is at crossroad between data assimilation, dynamical system and more recently machine learning. I have been working on advanced data assimilation methods based on dynamical system's properties, studied the model error dynamics and its incorporation within the data assimilation, and contributed to the first combined data assimilation and machine learning methods.

I have been leading several national and international projects and I am currently the co-PI of the Scale Aware Sea Ice Project (SASIP) funded by the Schmidt Futures' VESRI Institute (USA), aimed at better understanding the impact of amplified warming in polar regions.
