Information on academic and professional career

• Full Professor of Private Law.

• He is the author of more than two hundred scientific publications, including ten monographs published in major national series (Comm. Scialoja-Branca, Comm. cod. civ. Schlesinger, Trattato di diritto commerciale Bonocore/Costi, Monografie di Contratto e Impresa).

• He graduated in Law at the age of 22 from the University of Bologna, with a thesis in Institutions of Private Law entitled “Performance of Pecuniary Obligations”.

• On 12 March 2004, he obtained the title of PhD with honours in Civil Law (Chair: Prof. Francesco Galgano) at the Faculty of Legal Sciences of the University of Bologna (thesis title: “Acts of Ordinary and Extraordinary Administration in Private Law”). The thesis was published by Utet in 2007.

• In 2009, he created and introduced for the first time, at the “E. Redenti” School of Specialization for the Legal Professions in Bologna, the course in Law of Succession, which he taught from 2009 to 2022.

• He has organized or taken part in more than 500 conferences and/or training events.

• Founder and Scientific Director, from 2014 to 2022, of the National Society for Legal Training Lexenia s.r.l., the Lexenia School for Lawyers and the Lexenia School for the Judiciary. He has taught in training programmes for lawyers, notaries, chartered accountants and corporate lawyers, for more than one thousand hours of teaching, becoming one of the most active lecturers in Italy in the field of professional training.

• Foreign languages spoken: English, Spanish, French and Portuguese. He has published essays in Italian and foreign journals and delivered lectures in English, Spanish and French.

• Since 2019, he has been a member of the Scientific Committee of the Antonio Cicu Library of the Department of Legal Studies.

• Since 2019, he has devoted himself more intensely to Third Mission activities, launching a cultural initiative that led to theatre performances, with the participation of hundreds of students and coverage in the national press.

He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the following Class A journals: Diritto delle successioni e della famiglia (since its foundation); Actualidad jurídica Iberoamericana. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Class A journal Contratto e impresa (since 1 January 2009). He is a member of the Board of Reviewers of the journal Persona e Mercato and of the Evaluation Committee of the Class A journal Trust e attività fiduciarie. He is a member of the Instituto de Derecho Iberoamericano and collaborates with the journals Revista Boliviana de Derecho and Actualidad jurídica Iberoamericana (Class A) with the following functions: “proposición de temas y autores para la elaboración de artículos doctrinales, selección de originales y evaluación científica ciega de los presentados”. He is, or has been, a member of the European Law Institute (ELI), the Society of European Contract Law (SECOLA), the International Association for Historical, Legal and Comparative Research (ARISTEC), and the Emilio Betti Institute of Legal Science and Theory in History and Society. He is an Associate Member of the International Society of Family Law. He is a member of the Discussion Group on the document of the Lancet Commission on the Value of Death.

Founder and Scientific Director of Falling in Law, an international Network of Law and Culture, a non-governmental organization bringing together professors and researchers engaged in the study of the relationships between law and culture. Its international collaborations involve more than 80 countries and approximately 250 academics from all over the world. He directs Falling in Law’s “STUDI” series, the series The International Multilingual Yearbook of Falling in Law and, together with Cristian Lepin, the Spanish-language series “Derecho y Cultura” (published by Tirant Lo Blanch).

ACHIEVEMENT OF NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS FOR RESEARCH ACTIVITY

1. On 18 September 2004, he won the Anassilaos Giovani Award (2004) “for Research”, awarded to him at the headquarters of the Calabria Region, in Reggio Calabria, on 18 September 2004, with an Honorary Committee composed of the Rectors of the Universities of Calabria, Messina and the University for Foreigners. The award is under the patronage of the Senate of the Republic, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, and is a Medal of the President of the Republic and of the Chamber of Deputies.

2. On 22 June 2011, he won the 20th edition of the “International Award” of the C3 International association, presented to him by the Mayor of Rome in the Protomoteca Hall of the Campidoglio, in the presence of the President of the Constitutional Court and of Regional Presidents, with a round table chaired and coordinated by the then President of the Italian Antitrust Authority, Antonio Catricalà. The reasons for the award stated: “He is a prolific author of scientific publications and has collaborated with the most authoritative Italian jurists in the preparation of numerous collective works.” Press coverage included, among others: Il Tempo, 24 June 2011.

3. On 20 November 2017, he received from the National Cancer Assistance Foundation the 2017 Eubiosia Award for the planning, organization and coordination of legal conferences in support of fundraising for charitable purposes.

PARTICIPATION AS SPEAKER IN CONGRESSES AND CONFERENCES.

He has delivered invited lectures and carried out teaching or scientific coordination activities in conferences and training courses organized, among others, by: the University of Girona, the University of Valencia, the University of Toledo (Spain), the University of Havana (Cuba), the University of Chile (Chile), the University of Buenos Aires and the University of Cuyo (Argentina), the Italian School for the Judiciary, the National Council of Notaries, the National Foundation of Notaries, the Bologna Bar Foundation, the Ravenna Bar Foundation, the Italian Young Lawyers Association (AIGA), the Italian Women Lawyers Association (AGI), the Ferrara Bar Foundation, the Notarial Council of the Joint Districts of Ragusa and Modica, the Foundation of Chartered Accountants of Ravenna, the Association of Chartered Accountants and Accounting Experts of Trento, the Vicenza Bar Association, the Padua Bar Association, the Imola Lawyers Association, the National Cancer Assistance Foundation (ANT), the Ravenna School for Lawyers, Altalex, Convenia, Euroconference, Form & Lex and Ipsoa.

He has been a member of the Committee of Liberal Professionals of ANT (National Cancer Assistance Foundation). In particular, he “curates conferences dedicated to the professional associations of chartered accountants, lawyers and notaries in order to highlight the topic of testamentary bequests and the 5x1000 tax donation scheme, essential fundraising tools for ensuring continuity in the services provided by Fondazione ANT” (quoted from Rivista ANT).

He was Scientific Director, with functions of “organization, direction and coordination”, from 1 January 2012, of the Ipsoa Master’s Programme and the Altalex Master’s Programme dedicated to the Law of Succession. Since 2013, he was also Scientific Director of the Master’s Programme The Contract and the Market in Current Italian Law and of the Master’s Programme Debtor’s Liability and Asset Protection.

Founder and former Scientific Director of the legal training company Lexenia, the Lexenia School for Lawyers and the Lexenia School for the Judiciary. Lexenia was described by the national press as one of the largest giants of professional training in Italy (Il Fatto Quotidiano, 9 July 2015).
