Veronica Moretti short bio

I earned my PhD in Sociology and Social Research at the University of Bologna, carrying out my research mainly in the United States.

I am a member of the Bioethics Committee of the University of Bologna and I am on the board of the Research Network Sociology of Risk and Uncertainty (European Sociological Association) and of the European Society for Health and Medical Sociology Association.

I am one of the founders and Vice President of the Graphic Medicine Italia Association, a movement that promotes the use of graphic novels and comics within the healthcare system.

My main areas of research concern the intersection between technology and health, with particular reference to all digital ecosystems (social networks, blogs, websites and devices) through which actors build new communities based on shared knowledge and experiences related to their illness. Combined with this, my recent work has focused on the use of creative methods (especially diaries and comics-based research) within social research and, specifically, with respect to the sociology of health.
