Dissertation topics suggested by the teacher.
Topics for internal graduation projects and research projects change rapidily due to a strong turn-over and to the requirements of ongoing research and industrial consultancy projects. General topics address:
- inherent safety, sustainability and inherently safer and sustainable design (e.g. selection and design of inherently safer and sustainable processes; inherent safety and sustainability as a drivers in design solutions; green fuels for maritime transportation; offshore renewable energy exploitation)
- assessment and modelling of specific accident scenarios (e.g. Natech - technological accidents caused by natural events; domino effect; accidents in the transport of hazardous materials, also considering consequences on the environment)
- safety and sustainability of value chains for the production of green energy vectors and for CCUS (carbon capture and utilization): hydrogen, methanol, offshore P2G and P2L
- experimental and modelling assessment of the performance of insulating materials for cryogenic tanks (liquid hydrogen, liquid natural gas) in normal conditions and during a fire
- CFD modelling of scenarios caused by fire (e.g. behaviour of tanks and pipes involved in fires; safety of LNG tanks for new applications; effects of wildfires and WUI fires on process equipment)
- Process optimization and process modelling (e.g. optimization and design of innovative solutions for WtE flue gas treatment)
