Academic qualifications: degree in Medicine and Surgery in 1983 and specialization in Heath education and Preventive Medicine, major in Health education and hospital technique at the University of Bologna. In 1986 he received a Master in "Statistical, epidemiological and operational methods applied in medicine and public health" at Ecole de Sante Publique dell'Université Libre de Bruxelles. In 1990-1991, he attended the courses “Analysis of health services”, “Management of health services”, “Research methods” and “Information service” in the framework of the Master in Management of the Health Services at Departement d'Administration de la Santè dell'Università of Montreal.

Courses organised by the Emilia Romagna region: 1997-1998: Regional vocational course in public health, health organisation and management for General Managers, Medical Directors and Administrative Directors of Health Units. 2001-2002: 1st course “Mario Nironi” for General Managers of Health Units. 2008-2009: 3rd course “Mario Nironi” for General Managers of Health Units.

Main professional positions: General Director of Local Health Trust of Bologna from 1996 to 1999. In 1999, General Director of the Emilia Romagna General Directorate for Health and Social Policy. From 1999 to 2004, General Director of the Local Trust Unit of Rimini. From 2004 to 2012, general manager of the Ravenna Health Trust. From 2012 General Director of Emilia-Romagna General Directoratefor Health and Social Policy
