- Characterising the innermost regions nearby accreting supermassive black holes through X-ray spectroscopy

The student will analyse X-ray data coming from a variety of NASA (Chandra, Swift-XRT, NuSTAR) and ESO (XMM-Newton) telescopes. By fitting the X-ray spectra of nearby active galactic nuclei, the student wiil determine the properties of the medium responsible for obscuration (the so-called torus) and link such medium with supermassive black hole accretion phenomena. The student will work within the Clemson-INAF Compton Thick AGN collaboration (https://science.clemson.edu/ctagn/ ), of which I am one of the PIs.
