Short Bio

Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Bologna. His research focuses on artificial intelligence in medicine and biomedical imaging. He has contributed to the development of advanced methods for biomedical data analysis, fractal geometry techniques for the study of brain complexity, and the understanding of pathophysiological mechanisms, with particular emphasis on lung cancer screening and neurological diseases. He leads a research group working on AI-based computational methods in medicine and is also active in biocomputing.

He is included in the World Top 2% Scientists list (Stanford University, 2025). He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and is affiliated with the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society. He is the Spoke Leader of the “Intelligent Health” Spoke within the PNRR PE6 – HEAL ITALIA project. At the University of Bologna, he is a member of the Open Science Working Group (GLOS) and advisor for digital transformation. H-index 36 (Scopus).
