Full professor in the scientific sector AGRI‑06/B Agricultural Chemistry (Chimica Agraria) at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano since 2010.
Former Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology (2014–2020), where he also served as Vice Dean and President of degree program committees. His scientific interests focus on plant mineral nutrition, rhizosphere processes, nutrient use efficiency, and the environmental impact of fertilization practices. He has carried out international research stays in Germany, Switzerland, Brazil, and Chile and taught PhD courses on soil–plant interactions in the context of sustainable agriculture.
Author or co-author of more than 200 scientific products and 4 patents, with an H-index of 50 (Scopus, July 2025). He is a member of editorial boards for Plant and Soil, Frontiers in Plant Nutrition, and Scientific Reports. He has served as evaluator for national and international research agencies and was listed among the Top Italian Scientists since 2018 and among the top 40 plant scientists in Italy (Research.com, 2023).

Past President of the Italian Society of Agricultural Chemistry (SICA) and active member of multiple scientific societies (ISHS, IHSS, CIEC, SICA). He has coordinated or participated in several national and international projects, including PRIN, PNRR AGRITECH, and ERDF-funded initiatives.
Since 2022, he has been the Delegate of the Rector for unibz to the National AGRITECH Center and member of the board of the ICA-EDU Network for Innovation in Life Sciences Higher Education.Free University of Bolzano-Bozen
