  • PhD in Astronomy,  1993.
  • Post-doctoral fellow at the European Southern Observatory (ESO, Garching bei Muenchen, Germany) from 1993 to 1995.
  • Post-doctoral fellow at the Dipartimento di Astronomia, Universita' di Bologna from 1995 to 1997.
  • Researcher at the Dipartimento di Fisica ed Astronomia Astronomia, Universita' di Bologna, since 1998.

Co-chair of the SOC for the Event E17 of the COSPAR Scientific Commission E (Research in Astrophysics from Space) entitled "Accretion and ejection in AGN: A Multiwavelength View", for the 37th COSPAR Scientific Assembly (Montreal, july 2008).

Proponent and co-chair of the SOC of the Joint Discussion "Hot Interstellar Matter in Elliptical Galaxies" for the IAU XXVII General Assembly (Brazil, august 2009). For the same General Assembly, member of the SOC of the Joint Discussion "Dark Matter in Early Type Galaxies".

Member of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), within Commissions 34 (Interstellar Matter and Local Universe) of Division H, 44 (High Energy Phenomena and Fundamental Physics) of Division D, and 28 (Galaxies and Cosmology) of Division J.

Member and chair of the panels for the selection of observing proposals for the "Chandra X-ray Observatory" NASA's mission for X-ray astronomy, in the subject "Clusters and Normal Galaxies".

Teacher of various courses at the Astronomy Department of the Bologna University since 1998, for the Laurea Degree (Fisica Spaziale, Astronomia I and Astronomia II, Laboratorio di Astronomia, Elementi di Programmazione I, Calcolo Numerico e Statistica), for the Laurea Magistrale degree (Formazione ed Evoluzione delle Galassie, Astrofisica delle Galassie), and for the PhD in Astronomy (Astrophysics of Galaxies).
