Silvia Panzavolta holds a degree in Chemistry with honors from the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences at the University of Bologna.
She earned her PhD in Chemical Sciences from the G. Ciamician Department of Chemistry at the same university, with an experimental thesis titled “Biomineralization and Models for New Materials.” During her doctoral studies, she spent part of her research period at the Centre for Biomimetics at the University of Reading (UK).
Since October 1, 1999, she has been a researcher in the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences at the University of Bologna, working within the G. Ciamician Department of Chemistry in the disciplinary area CHIM/03. She is currently an Associate Professor in the same field.
Her teaching activities include courses in General Chemistry for the Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Applied Biomaterials for the Master’s degree in Photochemistry and Molecular Materials, and a module in Bioinorganic Chemistry for the Master’s degree in Chemistry.
Dr. Panzavolta conducts her research at the Ciamician Department of Chemistry, where she is part of the Biological Structures and Materials research group.
She is the author of over 80 scientific papers published in international journals, as well as three national and two international patents. She has presented her work at numerous conferences in Italy and abroad.
She also serves as a referee for several international scientific journals and collaborates with a number of research groups both in Italy and abroad.
