Silvia Bencivenni

During her MSc, in collaboration with the Microbiomics Unit of the University of Bologna, she participated in research exploring the gut microbiota composition of oncohaematological paediatric patients. Aiming to deepen our understanding of gut microbiota influence on the host’s health, Silvia continued her collaboration with the Microbiomics Unit even after the beginning of her PhD, and she is currently involved in a number of studies regarding the microbiota profile of translational animal models. In particular, her thesis project is focused on the characterization of milk microbiota in Gottingen minipig sows treated with metformin during lactation, in order to develop a standard procedure to evaluate the drug’s impact on the mother’s milk microbiota and its consequent effect on the infant gut microbiota.
