Silvana Loiero

I began my career as a primary school teacher and later became a head teacher. I worked for many years in teacher training and, from 1989 to 2020, collaborated with Giunti Scuola, publishing articles and books on Italian language education. For La Vita Scolastica, I wrote in the “Didattica Lingua Italiana” column, then served as scientific coordinator and editor-in-chief (2016/17–2019/20). I am a member of GISCEL, where I was national secretary (2018–2022), and I took part in the Ministry’s national curriculum committees (2000 and 2007). I recently edited L’educazione linguistica democratica (Laterza, 2018) and, for GISCEL, Dieci tesi per una scuola democratica (2019), Educazione linguistica e fantasia (2022), and Memorie per il futuro (2024), all published by Cesati. I have a deep love for Gianni Rodari, whose vision closely connects with that of Tullio De Mauro: both believed that language education is a right for all, and a key to a truly democratic school.
