Associate Professor of General and Applied Entomology and Apiculture at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano since 2021. He previously held research positions at the same institution (since 2009), the Universities of Göttingen (2004–2009) and Giessen (2002–2004) in Germany, the University of Pisa (2001–2002), and Yale University (2000–2001). He earned his PhD from the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies of Pisa (1997–2000). His research focuses on agricultural and forest entomology, apiculture, and chemical ecology, with a specific emphasis on chemical signals in insect-plant interactions, sustainable pest management, and insect olfaction. He is involved in numerous national and international projects on entomology and pesticide monitoring. He has supervised many Master, PhD and postdoctoral researchers and has authored 78 international peer-reviewed articles and over 100 total scientific publications (H-index: 27). Since 2023, he has been a member of the Italian National Academy of Entomology.
