Short Bio

Sara R. Farris is Full Professor (14/C1 – General Sociology) at the University of Bologna and Reader in Sociology at Goldsmiths, University of London. Her training lies at the intersection of sociological and political theory and the sociology of work.

In recent years, her research has focused in particular on the role of migrant women within the new economies of care and social reproduction; on the financialization and corporatization of care; and on the racialization of sexism. She is internationally known for her studies on “femonationalism.”

Her research has been funded, among others, by the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and by the European Commission through the Daphne III, Marie Curie, and Horizon 2024 programmes.

She is the author of In the Name of Women’s Rights. The Rise of Femonationalism (Duke University Press, 2017) and Max Weber’s Theory of Personality (Brill, 2013), as well as edited volumes and numerous articles published in international peer-reviewed journals.
