PhD from the University of Florence (1997). Since 2005 full professor. From 2008 to 2013 member of the Chamber of Deputies. Last published books:

His main research interests concern the organisational transformations of political parties, electoral competition and electoral systems, individual political attitudes and voting behaviour, the functioning and performance of government institutions, the structure of parliaments and law making. Since 2015, he has been a member of the Scientific Committee of the Italian National Election Studies (Itanes). Since January 2020, he has been Director of the
Carlo Cattaneo Institute Research Foundation.
