I teach English literature, gender and cultural studies, theories and history of culture in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. My research includes memory and trauma studies, the global novel, utopia, and dystopia, travel literature, memory and trauma studies in contemporary dystopian fiction and visual culture, and on literature as cultural ecology. I am a member of international European research networks and Ph.D. programs centred on gender studies and cultures of equality. I am part of international Councils on diversity and social inclusion, and projects on the New Humanities. I direct the Centre for Utopian Studies at the University of Bologna, and coordinate the International Erasmus Mundus GEMMA (women's and gender studies), the project Marie Skłodowska–Curie Actions – Doctoral Network (MSCA DN) EUTERPE - European Literatures and Gender from a Transnational Perspective, at the University of Bologna.
