Ralf Pasel is the founding partner of pasel.kuenzel architects Rotterdam and of Pasel-K architects Berlin. Focusing on experimental housing typologies and construction in an international context, the office operates at the interface between architecture and urban planning. The Practice has received numerous awards for innovative housing and urban design strategies, including the International Bauhaus Award for the transformation of slum housing in Chile as well as for new types of urban housing in the Netherlands.

Following international Visiting Professor roles at [i.a.] the Universidad Catolica de Santiago de Chile and the Rotterdam Academy of Architecture and Urban design, Ralf was granted a Full Professorship for Design and Construction at the Architecture Faculty of the Technical University Berlin in 2012.

In 2009 he was the curator of the exhibition ‘Parallel Cases’ at the 4th International Architecture Biennale in Rotterdam.

Ralf studied Architecture at the Technical University of Dresden, Germany, where he graduated in 1998 with‘ Honors Cum Laude, at the École d‘ Architecture de Paris, France and the University of Liverpool, England.
Between 1999 and 2004 he worked as project architect in charge at KCAP (Kees Christiaanse Architects & Planners) in Rotterdam, the Netherlands on large-scale housing projects and various urban design schemes.

Previously Ralf had worked with Jean Nouvel and Santiago Calatrava, Paris and David Mikhail, London.

Ralf Pasel has a wide list of publications amongst which most importantly the books Situational Urbanism – Directing Postwar Urbanity: an Adaptive Methodolo- gy for Urban Transformation (Berlin: JOVIS Verlag, 2014), City and Wind – Climate as an Architectural Instrument (Berlin: DOM Publishers, 2014), Home not Shelter! – Gemeinsam Leben statt getrennt Wohnen (Berlin:JOVIS Verlag, 2016) and Bella Vista – Regionale Lösungen für globale Herausforderungen (München: DETAIL Edition 2018).
