Polina Lemenkova

Research Fellow at the University of Bologna, she carries out her research in the field of GIS, spatial analysis, cartography, mapping, data analysis, visualization and modelling. She has a strong experience in cartography (diverse GIS software), applied scripting and programming (GMT, GRASS GIS, Python and R). Research interests are aimed at the geography, environmental mapping and landscape analysis. She applies cartographic methods of data handling for ecological analysis, e.g., detecting land cover types (vegetation) using satellite images for environmental analysis. She has a keen interest in Earth’s landscape dynamics and geologic history, biogeography patterns, biodiversity (national parks and protected areas) and conservation. Engaged in international research projects, she collaborated with various European and Chinese institutes. Author of numerous publications and active reviewer, she has received multiple awards, fellowships and grants from prestigious committees.
