Pierluigi Musarò is associate professor of sociology at the University of Bologna as well as a visiting fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science and the Institute for Public Knowledge, New York University. He has recently co-edited, with Paola Parmiggiani, ‘‘Beyond Humanitarian Narratives,’’ Sociologia della comunicazione (2013), and Media e migrazioni: Etica, estetica e politica del discorso umanitario (Franco-Angeli, 2014), exploring how humanitarian narratives are discursively dislocated from the context of humanitarian action and philanthropy in the management of migration and border control. He is also author of Le virtù della contraddizione. Quando la sociologia si fa etica, FrancoAngeli, Milano, 2008, and co-editor, with Laura Iannelli, of Performative Citizenship: Public Art, Urban Design and Political Participation, Mimesis International, Milano, 2017.
