Pier Giorgio Ardeni

Pier Giorgio Ardeni is a full professor of Political Economy and Development Economics and teaches Development Economics and International Development Economics (graduate courses). He does not have any institutional appointment.

His research interests focus on economic and social development, its determinants and the issues of inequality, poverty and climate change. He has been president of the Research Foundation Istituto C. Cattaneo (2015-19).

For the past two years he has been engaged in the research that led to the writing of the volume In Search of Development. Journey into the Economy of Unified Italy, written with Mauro Gallegati, published by Il Mulino, Bologna, June 2022. Recently, he has also published the book entitled The Return of History. The Ecological Crisis, the Pandemic and the Irruption of Nature, Castelvecchi, Roma, september 2022.

He has written and edited several volumes and publications on national and international journals. He writes in newspapers and magazines (Il manifesto, Domani, Il Ponte, Left) with a spirit of civic participation in the civil life of the country.
