Pier Francesco Bresciani

I am a Postdoctoral Researcher in Constitutional and Public Law at the Department of Legal Studies, where I also teach Advanced Legal Language and Writing.

My research focuses on punitive power (my book, La costituzionalizzazione del potere di punire, BUP, 2026, is in open access here), public order and security, the legal enforcement of morals, and mechanisms of protection of fundamental rights in Europe.

In recent years, I have been working within the ERC project HyperModeLex on the use of AI in public decision-making, in affiliation with the Alma Mater Research Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence.

I spent research periods at both the MPI for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg and the MPI for the study of Crime, Security and Law in Freiburg.

I also clerked as a trainee for Judge Barbera at the Italian Constitutional Court.

I am an attorney-at-law and a member of Bologna Bar Association.
