I am full professor of Economics at the University of Bologna since 2021. I obtained a Ph.D. in Economics in 2003 from Pavia and one in 2007 from Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona). I worked in Padua and since 2008 in Bologna as assistant and then associate professor. My research deals with theory and empirics of long-term development, political economics, social economics and crime economics, as well as with microeconomic theory. I published, among others, in the following outlets: Journal of the European Economic Association, Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Development Economics, Economic Journal, American Economic Journal: Microeconomics, Journal of Law & Economics. My research topics in recent years include: economic development and evolution of the state system in European history, government transparency, political effects of terrorism, origins and consequences of the Sicilian mafia, social closure and crime, morality and temptation, and dynamic price effects.
